The Paleo diet eliminates grains, sugar and processed foods. The recommended carbohydrate source is from sweet potatoes, vegetables and fruit, since these are naturally occurring carbohydrates that do not need to be processed like the carbohydrates in grains. It prescribes a diet of natural plants and animals as the key to optimum health.

In addition, new research shows that this diet assists in reducing cardiovascular risk factors. It provides a range of foods that supply plenty of nutrients, vitamins, and antioxidants. Also, the diet includes foods that have a low glycemic index. This prevents increase in your blood sugar. Some of these nutritious options are:

  • fruits and vegetables

  • nuts

Some individuals use the diet to treat symptoms of a variety of chronic diseases. The diet provides more energy, lessens pain and reduces dependency on some certain medications.
