Stress. It’s a six letter word we all know too well. Personal and professional responsibilities plus those little surprises that crop up day-to-day — the coffee spilled on your new blouse, the traffic jam that makes you miss your meeting, that bill you forgot to pay — can all compile until you’re overwhelmed.
To celebrate Stress Awareness Month, we’re sharing why it’s so important to combat your stress — and how you can knockout stress with TITLE Boxing Club! Check out the whys and hows of stress management below.
Stress Management: Why It’s Key
How Does Stress Affect Your Body?
Your nervous system is hard-wired to react to stress. When you interact with a stressor, hormones flood your system, leading to higher heart rate, blood pressure, and blood sugar levels. Other stress-related hormones will suppress your digestive and immune systems. As a result, you’re more prone to fall ill — which is why frequent stress can have a long-term impact on your health.
Stress has been linked to the following conditions:
- Heart disease: An elevated blood pressure and heart rate can up your risk of heart disease, and sudden onset of stress can even cause heart attacks.
- Asthma: Stress can worsen your existing asthma symptoms — and in some cases, a parent’s chronic stress can even increase their children’s chances of getting asthma.
- Obesity: Studies have shown that people with high stress levels tend to store their fat in the abdomen due to cortisol hormone levels.
- Diabetes: Stress can make people resort to behaviors that cause or exacerbate their type 2 diabetes, such as overeating or drinking; it also raises blood sugar levels, which can complicate diabetes management or lead to the development of diabetes.
And that’s only a handful of the medical conditions stress can cause, contribute to, or exacerbate. Clearly, managing stress levels should be a priority for everyone!
Knockout Stress With TITLE Boxing Club!
Release More Endorphins With a Group Boxing or Kickboxing Class
Experts agree that physical activity is a great way to bust stress. It isn’t just a mental thing, either — exercise works on a hormonal level to counteract the bodily response to stress. When you hit up your local TITLE Boxing Club for a boxing or kickboxing class, your body releases happy hormones called endorphins. Research has shown that working out in a group setting — like a TITLE class! — releases more endorphins than exercising solo, too.
Take Your Stress Out on the Bag
At the end of a long day or in the midst of a big fight, stress and anger can flare up. Though you may wish you could punch certain people in the face, violence is never a good solution. It’s not good to let that anger bottle up, either. Instead, visit TITLE Boxing Club and take your stress out on the bag. In our boxing and kickboxing classes, you’ll do mitt and bag work that’s sure to provide catharsis when you need it most. Our classes are hit-free, so you won’t run the risk of injury — but this doesn’t mean you won’t get to release your wrath on the bag!
See Long-Term Mental Health Benefits
An endorphin rush and intense bag session may seem like short-term stress solutions — but your TITLE workout also boasts long-term mental health benefits, too. According to the Mayo Clinic, keeping up with a regular exercise routine will reduce your anxiety and help combat depression. You’ll gain self-confidence, improve your overall health (which will lower stress levels), plus gain a sense of control over your life. Committing to a fitness schedule such as two TITLE Power Hours per week will put you on the road to long-lasting mental health.
This April, we invite you to knockout stress with TITLE Boxing Club! Find your local TITLE today to see the Power Hour schedule and pick your boxing or kickboxing fitness class.
