Hector Carmona, TITLE Instructor – TBC Ahwatukee:

@hecnolive is here to #breakthestigma during Mental Health Awareness Month. We are lucky to have
instructors who are committed to physical wellness and mental wellness. Thank you, Hector, for sharing
how boxing has helped you!

“I first began at TITLE when I moved to Miami back in 2018. I wanted to get in shape but also wanted to
learn the sport. I googled “boxing near me” and found a TITLE Boxing Club just down the road from
where I was staying. I signed up for my first class and like most people, didn’t know what the heck I was
doing haha but that’s okay.

I enjoyed the extra push the workout provided and the engagement with the trainer. I wanted to get a free
membership so I asked if they were hiring and they invited me to keep coming back to workout, so I did.
At that time in my life, I was going through a whole phase of mental health issues that I didn’t realize were
mental health issues. I was going to therapy at the time and one of the key factors in my growth was
being introduced to mindfulness & meditation, which is essentially focusing on our breath and being
aware of external/internal activity. Anybody who has taken a TITLE class knows how important it is to
control your breathing.

The workouts really challenged and still challenge me physically, mentally, and spiritually because I
remember when I first began this journey, there were times in class, especially during the burnouts where
all I could feel/focus on was my breath. That is what I love about what the classes provide. A constant
challenge to grow and become the best version of ourselves and in turn, live our best life.”
