At TITLE Boxing Club Liberty Township, OH, we pride ourselves in helping our members accomplish their goals in a supportive environment. Our member of the month this month has proved her strength my overcoming obstacles and pushing herself to the next level. The trainers at TITLE Boxing Club Liberty Township, OH are extremely proud of Susie Mangold and have had her back since the day she stepped in the club. After dealing being diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis in 2015, Susie has pushed herself to use our boxing for fitness classes to get her strength back. Through encouragement from her friends at TITLE and our boxing fitness trainers, Susie has found her place in the TITLE family, and we couldn’t be more proud of her. Here’s what Susie has to say about her experience with TITLE Boxing Club Liberty Township, OH:
Thank you, Title Boxing Club, for making me Member of the Month!
I am Susie Mangold. I’ve been married to Brian for almost 27 years and we have three children- Kevin 22, Rachel 20 and Christopher, 17. I work part-time as a Pharmacist and I volunteer in many areas at my kids’ high school. My daughter, Rachel, introduced me to TITLE Boxing. She joined last summer and kept asking me to go with her. I was very reluctant and had lots of excuses not to join her.
1. I don’t think I can box
2. It’s too far to drive
3. I don’t know anyone
The excuses did not work because 1) the trainers taught me how to box 2) I now carpool with my friend Joan and 3) I’ve met so many new friends at Title.
I did have one other big excuse. (I’m not used to sharing personal information but here it goes)
I was diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis in March 2015. It’s a rare autoimmune disease caused by inflammation of the spinal cord which causes motor and sensory neurologic dysfunction. I found this out when my legs slowly went numb and I was unable to walk. I am lucky though. After a four day stay at Good Sam and IV steroids, I came home in a wheelchair with instructions to go to physical therapy to relearn how to walk. I gradually got some nerve feelings back in my legs and worked for 3 months at Premier Physical Therapy to go from a wheelchair to using a walker, to using a cane to walking on my own.
Now I am boxing with my friends at Title!
Did I mention I am lucky? Through hard work and prayers answered, I am happy to be at this new “normal” in my life. My feet always have tingling/numbness feeling but I am walking and taking each new step one at a time. I have to work on balance and new exercises take some time to train my body to tell my legs/feet what to do. It’s been 3 years and I’ve come far from being in a wheelchair to now being able to do a jumping jack! At my very first boxing class, I struggled to figure out how to do a jumping jack. Title has pushed me to overcome many physical struggles.
I want to say Thank You to every trainer at TITLE and every friend I have met at TITLE. You may not have known all this about me, but you were right there helping me take on this new challenging experience in my “unbalanced” life.
Thank you for being a dedicated member and trusting us at TITLE Boxing Club Liberty Township, OH to help you hit your goals!
