Coach Gwen
Biography
Hi! I’m Coach Gwen — Chicago represent! My interest for combat sports started with training MMA and watching events when I was a kid, and now I bring that experience to the bag with high energy, good music, and a challenge. Whether you’re walking in for your first class or you’re an OG, I want everyone to feel comfortable and have fun. TITLE gave me a boost of confidence that I want to share with the room. And if you love Chicago House Music, come get that werk!
My Personal Mantra
To me, it’s about showing up for yourself and giving it your best, no one else can do the work for you. One thing you’ll hear me say in class is, “It’s you vs. that bag.” I know how intimidating trying something new can be, but we all had our first day. You can do anything you put your mind to.
My Training Style Is
My training style is versatile, playful, with a little tough love. I give variations so everyone can challenge themselves at their own level, but I’m always going to push you to give a little more. You might question halfway through class whether signing up was a good idea.
My Why
I coach because I know what it feels like to be on the other side. Having coaches and a community that pushed me to finish and keep going made a positive impact on me. Now, I get to be that person for others—helping members build confidence, push themselves, and realize what they’re capable of. Plus, I like yelling at people… in a motivational manner, of course.
What Gives Me My Fighting Spirit
My fighting spirit comes from seeing people enjoy themselves while getting stronger and improving with every class. Whether it’s gaining confidence, learning something new, or simply making it through a round, I love being a part of that. When you feel like giving up, that’s when we dig a little deeper and push!
Coach Sarah aka "Boss Lady"
Biography
Welcome- Coach Sarah here, I look forward to working with you! CA born and raised, Oakland girl for over a decade! My passion is community over everything. I have a BA in Public Health and pursued my NASM Personal Training Certification to better serve my clients. I have 10+ years' experience in the fitness industry. I first fell in love with fitness as a stress reliever and endorphin booster many years ago through group fitness classes, specifically cardio kickboxing and HIIT. What draws me to classes over working out solo is the community and friendships, and the coaches who make everyone feel included in a space that can otherwise feel daunting at times. I also love a good solo run around Lake Merritt with my headphones blasting some punk/emo/rock n' roll! When I am not working, you'll catch me at concerts, trying new restaurants, and definitely outdoors whenever I get the chance!
My Personal Mantra
You'll feel better after you get it done- promise!
My Training Style Is
Goofy, but informative. Exercise should feel accessible and fun, but you've got to do it properly so you don't get injured so you can keep coming back to class time and time again!
My Why
Why NOT?! We simply cannot just sit indoors and scroll! We've got to get out there, adventure, meet and inspire others, and move our bodies! It feels good and opens up so many more possibilities in your world mentally, physically, and emotionally.
What Gives Me My Fighting Spirit
As a woman, the strong women in my life inspire me. My friend, and first coach, suggested that I become an instructor. My mother, sister, and aunts and cousins are all strong and beautiful women, and I want to inspire them to stay healthy and be able to share activities with them on my days off.
Coach Pam
Biography
Born and raised in the Philippines, always been into sports - from learning Tae Kwon Do, playing basketball, and being in the track team. When I tried my intro class for Boxing, it just came to me so naturally that they ended up giving me a full hour session. Paused for a while on sports but once I found Title, I never stopped.
My Personal Mantra
It’s more of a question for me and you: “Are you ready? If the answer is NO, it doesn’t matter. You’re going to do it anyway!”
My Training Style Is
Energetic. Relentless. Motivational. I’ll push you to your limits as you give me the side eye, but you’ll end up thanking me after class with a big smile on your face.
My Why
On top of feeling good mentally and physically after a workout, enjoying the company of like-minded individuals makes me want to come back here every time. When I first came to Title, I was looking for a community and Title did not disappoint.
What Gives Me My Fighting Spirit
The members - hearing them say in the beginning how they can’t do a certain technique or workout. But after some time of repetition and progressive work, they get better as I see them polish up on form and they’re able to last longer on the exercises, helps motivate me as a trainer.
Coach Ron
Biography
I first started learning the sport of boxing in 2009 as a customer at King’s Boxing Gym in Oakland. Since 2001, I’ve been a federal employee. A true believer in boxing fitness training, and as club owner, I’d like all members of TITLE Boxing Club Oakland to see the club as their “home away from home” and a refuge from the trials and tribulations of everyday life. If we provide our members with an exceptional experience, they’ll return! I graduated from U.C. Santa Barbara in 1998 with a B.A. in Political Science and from Rutgers University in 2001 with a Masters in Public Policy.
My Personal Mantra
Everyday, seek to learn, grow, and develop. Strive for continuous improvement!
My Training Style Is
Welcoming and approachable
My Why
To have a positive impact on the community and bring people together. Good relationships and connections are key for our club.
What Gives Me My Fighting Spirit
Responding to adversity and overcoming challenges.
Coach Patty
Biography
I first started boxing through BayFit SF in 2018 (shoutout to Coach Bailey!) and quickly fell in love with the sport. After moving to Oakland in 2022, I continued training at Title Boxing Club Oakland, where I took my first kickboxing class. It was challenging, but I kept showing up slowly building on the fundamentals, improving my technique, and gaining confidence.
The coaches at Title played a huge role in my growth, especially through 1:1 training that helped me better understand technique and form. Since then, I’ve continued to challenge myself and expand my training by taking on Muay Thai. Over time, I realized I wanted to bring that same passion for the sport, learning, and community to others which ultimately led me to become a coach.
My Personal Mantra
Show up, no matter how hard it gets!
My Training Style Is
I love keeping people motivated, challenged, and out of their heads. I want members to understand the why behind what we’re doing, not just how to throw a punch or kick, but how technique, body mechanics, and movement come together.
My Why
MY WHY* When I’m boxing or kickboxing, it’s the only thing that matters in that moment. Everything else in my head goes quiet and I can be completely present. I also love that there’s always something new to learn, refine, or improve. I’ll always be a student of the sport and coaching gives me the opportunity to share what I’ve learned while continuing to grow with members.
What Gives Me My Fighting Spirit
I believe our bodies and minds are capable of taking on incredibly challenging things. When you combine that strength with belief in yourself and the willingness to keep showing up, you’re capable of more than you realize.
