Claude Sigmund’s story about how TITLE Boxing Club changed his life is truly an inspiration!
“I have always been physically active. I bike often and before my son was born I bike commuted 30 miles round trip to work for two years strait. I’ve run Tough Mudder, I hike, play soccer etc. However a few years ago I was feeling like the fire went out in me. I was lethargic. I had no desire to push myself.
After a prompting from my wife, I saw my primary care physician. He prescribed an anti-depressant and another drug, Alprazolam, that I take “as needed”. My physician made sure I was getting plenty of exercise and eating right. After describing my diet and exercise routine he was very happy and urged me to keep it up. I have followed his advice to the letter. I was talking my anti-depressant daily and my “as needed” 2-3 times a week. Even though I felt better, I was still not “me”.
I started at TITLE Boxing Club because I needed a change from my normal workout routine. I needed a class to push me rather than rely on my own internal mechanisms. My depression was causing my workouts to be less and less rigorous. I started TITLE Boxing Club classes in August of 2016. I began going 3 times a week. When life events came along and I was forced to miss a class, it had a real toll. Yes, the class was a great workout, but for me the class was really about releasing anxiety and stress.
After a few months of boxing (and kick boxing), I noticed that I had reduced my intake of my “as needed” medication to just a few times a month. At the six month mark, I saw my physician for a checkup. We were talking and he was excited to hear that I had been reducing my intake of Alprazolam. After further discussion we decided to reduce my anti-depressant dosage as well.
Well, it has been 8 months since my last checkup. I’m still on my same bottle of Alprazolam that was filled in March of 2017. I still go camping. I still bike and play soccer. As much as I love those activities, nothing quite does it like boxing.”
