A rest day is simply taking a day off from your normal workout routine. Taking rest days does not mean you’ll lose progress or have slower progress in your boxing and kickboxing skills. Rest days actually do the opposite and enhance your progress and performance in your TITLE Boxing Club Boston Assembly Row boxing and kickboxing classes! During your TITLE Boxing Club Boston Assembly Row heavy bag workouts, you create microscopic tears in your muscle tissue. Rest days allow your muscles to heal and grow back stronger; think more speed and power!
TITLE Boxing Club Head Coach Lany Herman gave us all the insight about rest days:
How often should you take rest days?
I recommend at least 1-2x a week, but always listen to your body. Some weeks you made need more and that’s okay!
What are some signs that you aren’t taking enough rest days?
Fatigue, low motivation, and suboptimal performance are all signs that you’re putting too much strain on your body and you should schedule in some rest days.
What are some things that can happen if you don’t take enough rest days?
You are more prone to injury if you aren’t allowing your body to rest and recover. Overtraining, while also being mentally exhausted, will likely contribute to bad form and mistakes during your workout that can have a negative impact on your muscles and joints. Not taking rest days can also lead to burnout and a lack of motivation. You probably take boxing and kickboxing classes at TITLE Boxing Club Boston Assembly Row because you enjoy them! The last thing you want to do is resent your favorite way to move your body.
What’s the best way to utilize a rest day? Do you recommend active recovery?
Taking a rest day doesn’t mean you have to sit on the couch all day and watch Netflix. You can stay active by doing low-intensity movements like walking and stretching. I also like to incorporate self-care practices like a massage or an Epsom salt bath.
