Why Mike joined: I originally joined TITLE Boxing Club in 2015 when preparing for my wedding to my beautiful wife, Lindsey. I wanted to lose weight for the big day and find a workout that could be an escape from the growing pressures I was feeling in my career. While I immediately felt stress relief benefits and enjoyed the boxing classes from the start, I never made the full commitment to consistently attend and thus I never saw the results I really wanted. I felt a connection to the gym right away and I knew this was a place I could achieve my goals, but I always had an excuse to not make it happen. There is no worse feeling then looking in the mirror and not recognizing and hating the reflection you see. How had I let myself get so unhealthy? I always thought that the more successful I was and the more money I made, the happier I would be, but it turned out to be the exact opposite because my life had fallen completely out of balance.

This May, Lindsey and I were lucky enough to welcome our first child, Ava, to the world and it truly changed everything for me. Looking down at this perfect baby, I knew I was not the best I could be for her and I had to make changes to be the dad I wanted to be. I had a thriving career, amazing wife and a beautiful new baby girl, but I was still so unhappy all of the time. I was a slave to my phone and e-mail 24 hours a day, traveling multiple days and nights a week, constantly eating out, and I relied on anxiety medicine, sleep medication and needed a sleep apnea machine to even get through each day. I knew I was stronger and better than this.

Finally, at the end of June, with a strong push from my amazingly supportive wife, I made the tough decision to leave my job of 11 years to completely focus on myself and finally getting healthy. I wanted to take the next 90 days to eliminate all distractions and see what I could achieve if I made a full commitment to wellness. Determined to make the most of this time, I knew TITLE Boxing Club could be the catalyst for the changes I wanted to make. I made a commitment to myself to attend classes a minimum of five days a week, started adding in strength training with weights, and began studying nutrition to see how eating right could help me achieve the results I wanted.

Now 90 days later, I am extremely proud of what I have been able to accomplish. I have lost 46 pounds since June 30th and I feel like a completely different person. I’m happier and healthier than I have been in a long time and I know this is just the start of what will be a lifelong commitment to be the best I can be for Lindsey, Ava and for me!

TITLE Boxing Club has helped me rebuild confidence and strength that had been worn down by years of not taking care of myself. I am happy to say that I no longer need any of the anxiety or sleep medicine I was taking before and I no longer have to rely on the CPAP machine at night.

As I start the process now to get back to work, I’m excited to take on the challenges of a new career and building our family but in a more mindful way. I still have a way to go to reach my long-term goals but it is so empowering to know that with TITLE Boxing Club and proper nutrition, I now have the tools and have built a foundation for sustainable wellness.

What do you like about TITLE Boxing Club Loudoun Station:

The best part about TITLE Boxing Club is the people that I have met – both the members and the trainers. It is a true community atmosphere and everyone is so positive and there to be the best they can be and motivate others.

A perfect example of this came the first day I attended class after I left my job. Wondering if I had made the right decision and uneasy about how to get started on these daunting goals, I decided to kick it off with a 6 a.m. Friday morning class with Nick. I hung towards a bag at the back of class and couldn’t believe how hard the class had gotten since I hadn’t attended in a while. I struggled through the eight rounds and then Nick challenged the class with a 10-10-10 drill with 10 push-ups, 10 jump squats and 10 hooks then 9 of each, 8, 7… all the way down to one. I was completely overwhelmed and wanted to run for the exit, but I decided to get started thinking I would do what I could until everyone else in the class had completed their sets and then class would be over. Then amazingly, as people finished their own sets, one by one they came over to me and started doing the exercises with me as they saw I was struggling. Before I knew it, the entire class that morning along with Nick the trainer had circled around me finishing off the drill with me, pushing me, and voicing their support. I didn’t know any of these people before that class, but they will never know how much that support meant to me that day. At that moment, I knew I was at the right place and I was finally going to make the changes I needed.

I want to sincerely thank all of the trainers and members at TITLE Boxing Club for always pushing me to make the most of each class. Your support and positivity has been the driving force in helping me over these last few months.

Lastly, I would also like to thank Lindsey for being the best wife in the world and believing in me with such confidence and support. You bet on me, like I bet on you. I love you.

Advice for future members:

TAKE ACTION. If there is something you don’t like about yourself, only you have the power to change it!

Hold yourself accountable by adding the classes you plan on attending each week to your calendar like you would any other meeting. You wouldn’t miss a meeting or appointment you have scheduled with another person so why is it ok to miss one with yourself?

An hour workout is only 4% of your day. You deserve to give that time to yourself. Turn your phone off and take it all out on the bag. No matter how busy you get, setting aside that hour for you will make all the difference in how you feel throughout the rest of the day, and the quality of the time you spend with others will improve dramatically.

You cannot out-work a bad diet. No matter how hard I worked out when I was eating poorly, I did not see results. Teaming up the hard work at TITLE Boxing Club with cleaning up my diet was the key to seeing the weight finally start to come off.

Nothing feels better than walking out the door after a Power Hour at TITLE Boxing Club. You feel strong, confident, and clear-headed. Come in even when you don’t think you have it in you, and push yourself to get better every class. Results are built with consistency!
