My personal journey with Title Boxing Club began almost accidentally when my teenage son had been begging me for weeks to sign us both up for memberships. His friends were members at the club but he wasn’t comfortable joining on his own. My intention was to do a month or two with him to get him hooked, then I would back out in hopes that, by that time, he would have made strong connections and develop a love of boxing. I was excited for him to embark on this adventure but my plan had some unforeseen cracks in it. He soon dropped out yet I continued to come when my schedule allowed and ended up falling in love with not only the classes, but the wonderful people that made title boxing club feel more like a family. Title Boxing Club stirred up an all too familiar feeling that had been void for many years and I realized how much I missed & needed this in my life again. My plan had backfired on me! Haha
Exercise Physiology was my major in college and my passion for health/fitness was fulfilled with my work as a personal trainer and group fitness instructor for more than a decade. There is nothing like working alongside people who are as passionate about their fitness goals as they are about their relationships with people and their personal battles with their own issues. There is a camaraderie in spaces like this that is contagious and priceless.
I quickly grasped how amazing the people were here starting with Zach during my first 3 phone calls, because of course I had a million questions prior to joining! Haha, he was personable, funny, patient and informative. Following my first class without my son, I met some super sweet women who were warm, inviting and outgoing – the kind of women I still look forward to seeing in class and feel lucky to know. There are some serious Rockstar Human Beings in there! They all have their stories and a million reasons not to be there but they show up! They hit the bags day in and day out with smiles on their sweaty faces and support for all their peers. You would never know their struggles with cancer, mental health issues, financial struggles or what have you. It is uplifting and motivating to witness their strength inside and outside of title boxing club.
It has made me re-evaluate some of my decisions about my own health. Following the horrible past year with covid and the pandemic, I gained almost 20 pounds and had completely let myself go. Working as a full time Realtor, raising my 3 older children and 2 year old Grandson, I let the challenges of juggling life get in the way of making my fitness/health a priority. Today, I have started to use the challenges I face in my daily life as the fuel for these workouts. It is such an amazing release and I hadn’t realized how much stress my body was actually holding. I am far from where I want to be but I know I will get there and have so many people here to help me be accountable. “One step, one punch, one round at a time.” – Rocky Balboa
