Stop Talking, Start Doing: Meet Mark.

Entertaining is a big part of my job, so I am required to attend a lot of events & various functions on a regular basis. These events have all the temptations: appetizers, drinks, and filling dinners. After a while, this lifestyle caught up to me with added weight and a lack of energy. It really became a shock this past Spring of 2016, I received an award and a few weeks later they sent me a glossy picture along with a video clip of the moment. I took one look and threw it away! I was embarrassed by the way I looked. Soon after, I decided to weigh myself and about had a heart attack.  I reached a number way higher than ever before.  This is when I knew I had to make some changes, and it had to be soon.

I remembered a friend who was always talking TITLE this, and TITLE that, and how it had helped him lose weight, get in shape, and ultimately changed his life dramatically.  I honestly thought it was an exaggeration but just to prove it couldn’t be ‘that good’, I wanted to try it out. Oh boy was I wrong!

My first impression was what the heck is this place? A bunch of bags, hanging in the middle of the room. A boxing ring… how will this place help me? This was not what I expected.  The General Manager RJ gave me a tour and explained how the classes work and everything started to make sense.  He offered me a free class the next morning.  When morning came at 5:30am, another what the heck am I doing moment, I took my first class. I can remember when I got home, my wife asked ‘How was it?’. Looking at my soaking wet shirt I replied ‘I cannot move right now but I loved it’ – I WAS HOOKED!

The final straw came when I received an email on June 28th, the usual Monday Motivation email. This one was from Walt Disney, of all people, and went something like this: “The way to started is to quit talking and begin doing.” I literally closed my computer down for the day and left for TITLE Boxing Club Westlake.

I set my goal based on where I was in the past.  I felt a very realistic goal of 35 pounds could be accomplished in the time frame of 8-12 months. The results, since joining, are simple and undeniable: weight loss and that ‘feel good’ factor. Way sooner than expected, right around the 5 month mark, I hit my goal of 35 pounds down. Since then, I’ve been able to keep the weight off.  I’m down another 5 pounds along with 4 inches off of my waist. I ran my first 5k ever, this past January, and finished with a respectable time of 25:24 placing 2nd in my age group.

I have played soccer my whole life.  The last few years have been really tough with knee and hamstring injuries, probably due to being overweight.  When playing this past summer, I felt as good as I did back in college. I’ve been able to keep the weight off, and I’ve gained way more energy than before. It’s a night and day difference!

What I like most about TITLE is how the trainers/staff are there for you every step of the way.  If you need help wrapping hands, they are there for you. If you need advice on recovery, they are there for you. And if you are looking to hide behind a bag when they call out ‘burpees’, YES you got it, they are there for you!

What makes TITLE different is it’s not only the staff, it’s the other great classmates, it’s like a big TITLE family. I’ve even paired my classes with other members Brian, Kim and Mike. We encourage each other and hold one another accountable.

The 3 biggest other benefits of TITLE would be: 1) A structured workout  2) Great atmosphere  3)Put the work in, get results out – guaranteed!

In all seriousness, I feel a lot better about myself in general. My routine now consists of getting up at 5am for early classes, and it prepares me for the rest of the day.  People ask me a lot about diet and how much it has changed, to be honest, I am not up to speed on the whole carbs/proteins/calorie combinations.  I’ve never really paid attention to it. But what I have changed is cut out my diet coke addiction, no more Kit-Kat’s, and I’ve eaten more salads in the last 5 months than in the last 5 years.  I still enjoy a few pints here and there too.

I would recommend TITLE Boxing Club 100% of the time.  Here is what I’d share: The PowerHour is brutal, not going to lie, but brutal in a good way.  It really provides a complete total body workout and you can’t feel anything but accomplishment afterwards.  As for those who have never tried boxing before, doesn’t matter! I’d argue that 99% of the people in class have never tried it before coming here.  The boxing is almost an afterthought, because you don’t fight. You just happen to be wearing gloves, hitting a bag, and being motivated by some crazy encouraging trainer all at the same time.  If you are new to fitness or a seasoned veteran, I have no doubts TITLE will take you to a whole new level.
