Seeing your weight on a scale can be a major wake-up call, but finding out your body’s age can be even more startling.
Anthony ONeal, a 33-year old Wall Street Journal National Best-Selling author, recently visited his doctor. And to his surprise his doctor informed him that his body’s age was that of a 42-year old male.
How would you feel if a doctor told you that your body’s age was nearly 10-years older than your actual age? Shocked or disappointed? Not ONeal.
“I knew this was my chance to make a change and to inspire positive change,” ONeal said. “And that’s why I decided to start the 90-day health movement. My health is important and we have to help people with their health.”
ONeal had always been interested in weight lifting but his disdain for running prevented him for getting the necessary amount of cardio. But when his doctor suggested boxing and kickboxing as an alternative form of cardio, ONeal was ready to lace em’ up.
With no boxing experience ONeal joined TITLE Boxing Club Cool Springs in Franklin, Tennessee in early August. He has been participating in one-on-one training sessions on Tuesdays and 45-minute boxing classes on Fridays.
And after just a few weeks, he can already feel and see a difference.
“It’s really helping me become a better and stronger individual,” ONeal said. “This is something I’ve never done in my life and it’s pushing me every time I strap-up. Every time I hit that bag I see myself hitting on pound off. Every punch is knocking something negative out of me.
Sarah Walton, a trainer at TITLE Boxing Club Cool Springs knows how important it is for people to have a positive attitude coming into training. She also knows that pushing them to go beyond what they thought was possible will establish the workout habits forlong-term success.
“When somebody has the courage to walk through those doors knowing they are out of shape I get excited,” Walton said. “They have to have fight inside of them and they can’t compare themselves to anyone else. If they come in and work at the foundational level they will reach their long-term goals. Consistency yields results.”
And when it comes to training ONeal, she knows that his mindset is a big part of his early success.
“When we’re training, he is serious,” Walton, who has been a trainer at Cool Springs for over two and a half years said. “It’s a good thing he wants to be pushed because I am not going to let him give up. He wants to do this to set a good example for others and he knows that quitting isn’t acceptable.”
ONeal will be the first one to tell you that his sessions with Walton are difficult and intense. He will also be the first one to tell you that they are rewarding.
“After five minutes in the ring with Sarah I’m ready to go home,” ONeal said. “I’m sore from my feet to my hands. She doesn’t play, she is beast and I love that. I have no doubt that in 90 days I will be killing that bag.”
ONeal’s challenge is just the beginning. He has plans to turn his 90-day challenge into a change of lifestyle.
“I never lacked ability, all things are possible,” ONeal said. “Next year I want to be my age and younger. These 90-days are just to get me started. I have a determination and a mindset that can’t be stopped. And I hope people realize they can have that too.”
