you aren’t walking into the ring to take on Mayweather, you’re there to have some fun and get a good sweat in.
Let’s face it, attending a new workout class is intimidating. I get it, I recently took my very first class at TITLE Boxing Club and felt all the nerves beforehand. Now, on the other side of my first class, I’m going to debunk the top five worries that crossed my mind before stepping foot into the club.
Worry #1: I don’t know how to box.
Most people that walk into TITLE to take their first class don’t know either, which is why you show up 30 minutes early to get your hands wrapped and learn the FOUR moves you need to know for the entire class. Remember, you aren’t walking into the ring to take on Mayweather, you’re there to have some fun and get a good sweat in.
Worry #2: I don’t “look” like a boxer.
Yes, there are definitely a FEW intense MMA-looking members walking around the club with their rippling back muscles and arm tattoos. MOST everyone else looks like your first-grade teacher, your grandpa, your best friend, your boss, your nephew, your mom, and pretty much anyone you’ve ever crossed paths with. You will notice every body type, ethnic background, age, and ability under the sun at a TITLE Boxing Club.
Worry #3: I’m not in good enough shape for a class.
After meeting some longtime members and taking a class myself, I’ve concluded that regardless of being in shape or not, the class is hard. It’s challenging no matter what, which is why everyone is there. People keep coming back because they can expect a therapeutic hour of sweat-inducing fitness every single time.
Worry #4: People will stare at me because I won’t know what I’m doing.
I promise, no one is staring at you. When that first bell rings, signaling the start of class, members zone in on the hundred-pound bag symbolizing all the battles they’re fighting in life. They’re focused on beating that bag senseless, not on the new girl taking her first class.
Worry #5: Boxing isn’t a full body workout.
This one is hilarious and I can’t believe I ever suspected it to be true. The power behind your punches comes from your shoulders, back, core, and legs. Not to mention, there is an “active rest” between sets which basically means squats, jumping jacks, and high knees. The class concludes with an intense core session. Your entire body will be sore; you will see results everywhere.
Look, if after reading this you still have reservations about simply TRYING a class then you aren’t ready to make real life-impacting change. This workout will change your life, but it’s up to you to take the plunge. Locate a club nearest you, setup a time to take your first class, and take that first step, and punch, to achieving goals you didn’t know were possible. Trust me, if I can do it, everyone can!
Stay sweaty,
