2020 PLANKSGIVING CHAMPION

It sounds funny but…TITLE really has changed my life.

2020 Planksgiving champion, Tom Davy, has been a member of the TITLE Boxing Club Burlington Family for the last 3 years. He was introduced to the club by his son, who became interested in giving boxing a shot. Tom took his son to a few classes before deciding to try it out himself. After that first power hour in front of the heavy bag, he knew he had finally found a workout that was not only effective but brought him joy. To this day, he and his son still frequent the club together.

Before his TITLE Boxing Club days, Tom had struggled with sticking to a workout regimen. He periodically would go through phases of going hard in the gym for a while but ultimately, lifting weights and running on the treadmill was just not his thing. “I was really a couch potato before I started there and I had just gotten a diagnosis that I was prediabetic too,” Tom told us. Today, he is 40 pounds lighter than he was at the beginning of his TITLE journey. Besides the improvements in his health, Tom thoroughly enjoys the community of amazing individuals he gets to converse with before and after class. “It’s all the trainers and the people that work there too, if they weren’t who they are then I wouldn’t be sticking around,” he admitted.

His pride for his TITLE club hit an all-time high when he decided he was going to try to win the 2020 Planksgiving competition for Burlington. In 2019, his longest plank time was 7 minutes, this year, it was a whopping 1 hour and 5 minutes! Throughout November 2020, Tom practiced and perfected his plank time. “All I wanted was for Burlington to win, I just told everyone to do it because I wanted Burlington to win,” he explained. On the last day of November, he walked into the club, got in the plank position with his headphones in, and held it for an hour and 5 minutes. “It was painful, my whole body was shaking,” he described to us. Despite his physical discomfort, Tom had done what he once thought to be unimaginable, held the longest plank out of every TITLE member in the country.

When asked what he felt when he found out he won, he replied, “It’s still a shocker to me, I’m 50 years old,” he laughed. Tom’s heart and grit have truly inspired us all. He found himself unhappy with his health and took action. He left us with the heartwarming statement: “It sounds funny but…TITLE really has changed my life.”
