The holiday season is full of love, laughter, family time and gifts galore. We want you to believe in the magic of the season instead of battling your weight. So, learn how to prepare for the fight in advance and you’ll be a shoe in for victory over holiday weight gain!
“Keep a healthy, balanced this holiday season with a one-two combo of healthy food and bursts of exercise.”
Don’t let the “oh I’m so busy I don’t have time to workout during the holidays” be your words. Plan ahead to move at least 3-4 times a week with a quick, targeted and results-oriented workout. Then choose proteins and greens!
- Weigh-in weekly. Some people track their weight, their body fat or simply measure their results off their favorite pair of denim. Whatever you do to stay on track, measure it at least twice a week during the holidays.
- Be picky. Some people call you picky, but we like to say you’re a selective eater! Only select the foods that serve you and if you must splurge just take a bite then move on.
- Eat throughout the day. Eating 5-6 small meals every 3-4 hours not only keeps your hunger at bay, but it also keeps your metabolism firing on all cylinders. Be sure to eat before you attend parties. This may sound counter intuitive, but it will keep your tendency to pick and over drink to a minimum. Plus, there are lots and lots of hidden calories in all those yummy dips at all the parties you’ll be attending.
- H20. Drinking a gallon of water a day and incorporating water-rich foods is key. This will keep you hydrated and helps you flush fat from your body.
- Limit diet soda. Water hydrates you, helps control hunger and doesn’t possess the ingredients to drive up your cravings for sugar like soda can.
- Potassium rich foods. These are needed to absorb the sodium found in the holiday foods. Try: bananas, papayas, kiwis, strawberries and cantaloupe.
- Concentrated workouts. Time is limited so plan ahead every Sunday and schedule in your workouts. A Power Hour starts on time and ends on time. So show up, start sweating and get in 3-4 a week over the holidays!
- De-stress. Stress causes a lot of wear and tear on our bodies, including taxing our thoughts, feelings and behaviors.
- Tea time. To conquer hunger spells try drinking peppermint tea, it helps sooth stomach muscles and can take the hunger edge off. Chamomile tea is amazing for winding down to relieve stress every evening, too.
Simply add these tips to your life balance and keep your body, mind and spirit high during our most favorite time of year. And, when all else fails, come hit the heavy bag and let all your worries go for one hour a day!
