Should You Work Out In The Evening?

Not a morning person or don’t have time in the middle of the day for a workout? Evening workouts may be for you! We chatted all about evening workouts with TITLE Boxing Club Master Coach Chris Gerhardt.

How do you personally feel about evening workouts? Does the time-of-day matter when it comes to working out?
I’m a big fan of evening workouts because I have more time and energy later in the day. The time of day you get your training in doesn’t matter. What matters is finding a workout routine that works best with your lifestyle because this is how you will stay consistent with your workouts! You also don’t have to work out around the same time every day for your workouts to be effective.

What are some benefits of evening workouts?
Here are my top three:

  1. They’re a good way to de-stress after a long day. There’s no better way to release endorphins, those feel-good thoughts, and take your mind off your daily worries. Boxing workouts specifically are known to be among the most effective stress-relieving workouts.
  2. They can help with digestion. LISS (low-intensity steady state) exercises such as walking, yoga, or stretching can help with post-meal digestion. My family and I love to take post-dinner walks around our neighborhood.
  3. They can help you sleep better. Studies have shown that exercising at night can help you fall asleep faster and promote deeper sleep.

Is it possible to work out too late? Is there a cut-off time?
There is no specific cut-off time, but my general recommendation is to not work out within an hour of bed to ensure your sleep quality isn’t affected.
