Big Success in the Big Apple

Opening a fitness center is a challenge at any location. And with more than 250 health clubs in New York City, it is one of the most difficult markets in the world.

That challenge is exactly what appealed to Michael Tosto.

“If you can make it in New York City, you can make it anywhere,” Tosto said, who is the proud owner of two TITLE Boxing Clubs – NYC Midtown West and NYC Midtown East. “Each day I walk into work I get to be with my friends.”

Tosto’s success in the Big Apple comes from his great passion, determination and sense of community. He truly believes in connecting with every person that sets foot in his gym. This desire to develop a family atmosphere in his clubs, prompted Tosto to search for staff members with a similar passion for people.

“If you genuinely care about something you’re doing, people will appreciate your effort,” Tosto said. “I wouldn’t want to spend an hour with someone that didn’t care about me or what they are doing.”

Tosto created this atmosphere by building a goal oriented team that aims to inspire others to achieve their objectives. Whether it be weight loss, to improve as a boxer or to just have fun, Tosto and his staff with be there every punch of the way.

Zach Morello, a staff member at NYC Midtown West, understands just how important it is to build authentic relationships with everyone at the club.

“I do to this to see members grow,” Morello said. “It’s not just a business. We want to see the change and growth, that is what makes it so rewarding.”

Morello knows TITLE Boxing Club’s classes can sell themselves but it’s the atmosphere that started with Tosto, that really makes the TITLE Boxing Clubs in New York City so appealing.

“Michael doesn’t just push us, he’s there to guide us with insights and experience,” Morello said. “He taught us that it comes down to how much you care, period. He’s successful for a reason and it’s not the location or product. It’s because he loves this place and everyone in it.”

The authenticity that Tosto brings to the table speaks to fellow New Yorkers. Tosto adjusted his business plan to make each workout yield the specific results that the members of his club want. Tosto’s workouts are quick, intense and engage with members. This keeps members physically and mentally engaged in training.

Tosto’s personal impact is evident, as Classpass.com reports that Tosto’s TITLE Boxing Club is one of the top three most-Tweeted about fitness studios in New York. It’s fun and friendly yet, high intensity and challenging. By promoting an exhilarating, empowering and addictive life style, Tosto’s passion translates to his members.

“Michael is the facilitator,” Gina Kim, who has been training in Tosto’s club for about 9 months said. “You can really tell he cares and it’s genuine. He knows everyone’s name and goes above and beyond. This isn’t about him getting you into a club and getting your money, he wants to know you and see you grow. TITLE is his life.”

Kim enjoys the physical and learning components that happen in every TITLE Boxing Club class. But beyond that, it’s the atmosphere and people at the club that bring her back to the club every Tuesday and Thursday.

“His classes are one of the most intense in New York City,” Kim said. “He pushes you to sow-up every class. Everyone is dedicated and is in it together. We all know it’s going to be one heck of a workout but we know we have the support of everyone in the club.”

Spending 20 hours a day at work might seem too much for most people, but when it doesn’t feel like work and you love what you do, 20 hours might not even be enough. For Tosto, he has poured soul into his clubs and that won’t likely change anytime soon.

“I came to this city by myself,” Tosto said. “Every friend I have in the city is because of the boxing club. It’s a special place in my life, it’s my home.”
